It's that time of the year again, where we all get to remember those we have loved and lost to the battle of breast cancer. There are also our amazing survivors that need to be revered in all their glory!

No one knows the bravery required to overcome breast cancer, to have to sacrifice our breast in order to stay alive and give up that which is deemed to represent "womanhood"... that is unless you yourself are a survivor!

Avon has a yearly walk in support of raising funds to fight breast cancer and to raise breast cancer awareness. Have you signed up for this years AVON ITHEMBA WALKATHON?

PUT YOUR BEST FOOT FORWARD

Avon has recently launched their own unique foot tool (take that Dr. Scholl), it contains micro-crystal technology for instantly smooth and baby soft feet all summer long.
I know when I saw the launch of the aforementioned competitor's tool I was intrigued and maybe a little green for those who got to test drive the latest foot tool. You can only imagine the squeal which left my lips when I discovered this beauty by Avon in a recent press drop. Cue angels and trumpeting!!

Avon's Electric Rolling Pedi Tool

This tool comes with two interchangeable heads which offer both a coarse applicator (for stubborn skin) and a finer option for those delicate areas. With pink rollers covered in clear micro-crystals, it is rather rudimentary but revolutionary at the same time. The tool helps to slough off dry and dead skin, leaving your feet smooth and ready to apply some of the divine Avon Footworks products. Great news it is battery powered and therefore super convenient for travel too.

What did I think?

I am in love people, this tool is amazing, especially for me who struggles with hard dry skin thanks to a) being overweight and b) my blood pressure medication. I would highly recommend this to anyone as part of their homecare regime especially if you struggle to reach your feet.

So the last year and a half my life has been a constant battle to fight off the effects of Fibromyalgia and stave off the constant dull ache of chronic pain and inflammation.

In desperate times I am not averse to trying anything ... anything at all.  I have recently on a friends advice even found some relief in sound therapy LISTEN HERE. Whilst I will never compromise my beliefs (Christian) I am also open to the unconventional when it comes to the promise of a pain-free day.

Lately, I have been struggling to be inspired by food, or even finding food which is both appetizing and anti-inflammatory at the same time. That is until I went to the most amazing book launch. I got to attend informative talks on how my diet is in fact linked to my DNA and how my body responds to certain foods better than others. (Man, I wish I could afford a DNA Analysis test).

GENES TO PLATE - A new generation nutrition

Can I hear a drumroll, please ... enter a new era of eating.

GENES TO PLATE takes nutrition to a whole new level by looking at 4 health connections to food and our DNA. These include detoxification, methylation, oxidative stress and inflammation.

This the GENES TO PLATE recipe book gives you insight into the body and optimum nutrition and is jam-packed with tried and tested recipes.

What are these health concerns you ask?

1. DETOXIFICATION
Is your bodies natural cleaning service. When this is out of whack you will experience low energy, chronic fatigue, weight gain, headaches, brain fog and more ...
2. METHYLATION
Is a chemical action involved in just about every process in the body. When this is out of whack you will experience heart disease, stroke, mood disorders, premature ageing and mental degeneration and more ...
3. OXIDATIVE STRESS
This is akin to a human being rusting from wear and tear. When this is out of whack you will experience heart disease, cardiovascular disease, premature ageing, age-related disorders, cancer, and inflammation and more ...
4. INFLAMMATION
Chronic inflammation is associated with every chronic disease known. What when this is out of whack? Heart disease, eczema, autoimmune disease, cancer, bowel disorders and much more ...
For a truly informative guide to health and healthy eating you really want to spoil yourself with this book. It has more than 100 recipes to help you get your body back into shape and fighting fit.

There are recipes to suit every palate and lifestyle and most of all they are tasty, I often make the above Quinoa salad and all my guests have raved about it ... (in fact, I must have sold at least 20 books alone ... he he he).

Find your copy at Wellness Warehouse or over her at CTG Centre you won't regret it.  Consider it to be the best R300 investment you will have made on yourself this year ... go on, get it!

I wish I could say that I am all better, but the battle continues. I can, however, say that it is a far healthier and much tastier journey. My food no longer has a negative impact and it no longer includes a wealth of inflammation-causing foods!

This recipe book paired with DNA Analysis truly is the missing piece in many of our puzzles. Read more about it when you purchase your copy and be prepared to be blown away.

Happy munchies ya'll!!

Pets are for the most part like children in a family. Why then are we happy to just shove any old bowl of food in front of them ... no matter the long-term implications.

Our pets deserve the best just like our children, especially if you want to have them around for a long time.

HILL'S PRESCRIPTION for mature feline's

Unlike us, kitties can't take supplements themselves and therefore their kibble is super important for good health and longevity. Now there is a kibble that not only gives your mature cat optimum nutrition but protects both their joints and kidneys too! So yes, my kitties are "spoilt" and are now joining the ranks of #HillsGoldenOldies
As kitties age their bodies process proteins differently, this affects their kidneys as they age, there is also a marked decline in their appetites and their joints start to age. HILLS PRESCRIPTION DIET K/D +MOBILITY  is the ultimate and ideal food for mature kitties. Hill's recently put my kitties to the taste test (well, actually Mischka (9) but there is no way to exclude my little Tiger (6) boy) ... so it was a feast for all!

Is your cat +7 years?

Is your pet is 7 yrs+? It’s time for a senior health check & change of diet. www.SeniorPets.co.za #HillsGoldenOldies

What did my kitties think?

They love love loved the kibbles. In fact, I was super impressed at how quickly they adapted.

The kibble itself is thin, flat and disk-like as opposed to the usual pellet or thicker round. This not only makes it easy to crunch through, but I am sure will help them as they get older. The kibble is super tasty and highly palatable (no I didn't taste it!) if they are anything to go by.

The HILLS PRESCRIPTION DIET K/D +MOBILITY is a huge success with my cats and if it can make their lives longer, happier and prevent illness I'm all for it!
This month is Pet Obesity Month and you need to make sure your babies are not obese, we often think they are cuddly but in fact, they are overweight. This can significantly shorten their lifespan.

Hills has you covered ...
"We know you don’t think your pet is overweight, in fact, 9 out 10 pet parents of overweight pets don’t think so either. Vets across SA and Namibia are offering FREE weight checks this #PetObesityMonth so that you can know for sure! http://bit.ly/HillsPetSlimmer11"

I remember in days gone by on the ships when they used to speak about "Mont Blanc and Cappucino" managers. These were the managers who thought they peed Eau de Cologne and who knows ... maybe they did! after all, Mont Blanc now makes fragrances ... tee hee!

Whilst I may not have been an elitist in those days I sure do have an appreciation for the fun, fabulous and rather flirty MONT BLANC LEGEND POUR FEMME.

FRAGRANCE FRIDAY: REVIEW- MONT BLANC LEGEND

To me, MONT BLANC LEGEND POUR FEMME speaks of understated feminine strength. It is soft, lasting and yet super confident. And, in a world of first impressions, this one promises to be a lasting impression for sure!

The fragrance itself has a fresh burst on the initial application and then softens to a warm musky undertone. The inspiration behind the fragrance is said to be the icons such as Grace Kelly, Greta Garbo, and Marlene Deitrich.

The fragrance is made up of the following notes:
Top note: bitter orange
Middle note: a floral heart of sweet jasmine and lily of the valley
Base note: a rich musk finish featuring a touch of warm vanilla

"I personally love wearing this fragrance on a day when I feel like I need a little kick in the butt. "

It makes me feel confident and sophisticated with just enough spunk to get me on my way. The bottle is in in the shape of the iconic Mont Blanc emblem and the fragrance the softest shade of warm pink. A great addition to any woman's collection.

I bought my fragrance on offer at Dischem as part of a 2-for-1 special however you can find these readily online at all your favourite online retailers.
HANDY HINT:
- Always test a fragrance on the inside of your elbow where it is warm and will not be washed away. this will give you an indication of how the fragrance will wear.
- Never rub a fragrance as this destroys the essential oil molecules and not give you a proper indication of how it softens or lasts.

As you all know I am a bookworm. Sadly, one who struggles to find me time. I just love running away from society and escaping into the pages of a good book ... don't you?

Nothing makes me more content than a cozy corner and the physical turning of paper pages. I enjoy a wide variety of authors and genres which in the past has also included Dan Brown. I truly enjoy Dan Brown and have read most of his books,  mainly because I love the mystery and intrigue of dark hidden societies and the search for secrets revealed. What I treasure most of all, is his ability to draw you into the story so that you feel like you a part of the action and not just simply observing from afar.

Here take a peek at his new release which is coming soon!

Book Launch: DAN BROWN ORIGIN

Good news for all the Dan Brown addicts, a new book is about to hit the shelves on the 3rd of October. The new publication is called ORIGIN said to be his best book yet.

About the book:
Bilbao, Spain

Robert Langdon, Harvard professor of symbology and religious iconology, arrives at the ultramodern Guggenheim Museum Bilbao to attend a major announcement—the unveiling of a discovery that “will change the face of science forever.” The evening’s host is Edmond Kirsch, a forty-year-old billionaire, and futurist whose dazzling high-tech inventions and audacious predictions have made him a renowned global figure. Kirsch, who was one of Langdon’s first students at Harvard two decades earlier, is about to reveal an astonishing breakthrough . . . one that will answer two of the fundamental questions of human existence.

As the event begins, Langdon and several hundred guests find themselves captivated by an utterly original presentation, which Langdon realizes will be far more controversial than he ever imagined. But the meticulously orchestrated evening suddenly erupts into chaos, and Kirsch’s precious discovery teeters on the brink of being lost forever. Reeling and facing an imminent threat, Langdon is forced into a desperate bid to escape Bilbao. With him is Ambra Vidal, the elegant museum director who worked with Kirsch to stage the provocative event. Together they flee to Barcelona on a perilous quest to locate a cryptic password that will unlock Kirsch’s secret.

Navigating the dark corridors of hidden history and extreme religion, Langdon and Vidal must evade a tormented enemy whose all-knowing power seems to emanate from Spain’s Royal Palace itself . . . and who will stop at nothing to silence Edmond Kirsch. On a trail marked by modern art and enigmatic symbols, Langdon and Vidal uncover clues that ultimately bring them face-to-face with Kirsch’s shocking discovery . . . and the breathtaking truth that has long eluded us.

So life has been rather hectic of late, we are approaching year-end and in my field of work that truly is a crazy busy time of the year.

Add to that a fibro flare and you will understand the anxiety pain and frustration once again circling through my life. I have never been one to question the "why" but rather I chose to just live one day at a time in the hope that God will use my life to enrich others lives in some small way. Whether it be here on the blog, in the day to day outliving of my life or simply the echo in my brain - that all is not in vain.

Moving through pain, frustration, and depression

So it is these revelations of meaning and purpose that are once again challenging me.  Especially as I sit here in agony, feeling depressed and defeated and all because of an invisible illness. Frustrated because no man can see past my physical appearance to a heart which yearns to be loved, and discouraged at my inability to save and travel. I guess one could say I feel unlovable and inadequate... how sad is that?

You see life is a series of interconnected events, you never know the outcome thanks to the myriad of variables and choices we make on a daily basis. So why is it that we so desperately cling to a dream long forgotten "faded dreams"? Why don't we refresh our view on life regularly ... recalculate and move forward? I suppose it's because sometimes the familiar is far easier than trusting in a future and a hope we cannot see. Today I am reminded that God gives us a hope and that only we can choose to let it go because of circumstance (and spite ourselves) ... or recalculate despite circumstance and hold fast onto His promises!

I have been watching a series called Perception which quoted "The eye sees only what the mind is prepared to comprehend." What do you see?

My mind's eye

I recently realised that I still see distrust, hurt and betrayal in every man that crosses my path. How then can I ever imagine meeting that someone special? How then can I ever learn to love myself - fat or thin? The truth is I don't know, I can only cling to Jesus and His promises in my life. He is my rock and I know I can't do this in my strength. Heck, I don't even like myself most days ... Truly, I thank God for grace.

I know that I will not give up on my dream of a husband, travel and my own business. My dream of a pain-free day, and of being my goal weight. My dream of loving and accepting myself unconditionally.

I know we all go through daily struggles and thank you for listening to mine. For you my friends I wish love, hope, dreams, and happiness. Let's keep up the good fight and trust in Him always.

Nothing says fun, flirty and summer quite like a sparkling pink bottle of fragrance. As you all know by now I love my fragrances and I am not averse to the lesser known and more pocket-friendly variety too.

So today is my second budget friendly fragrance I bought on the TakeALot.coms sale. Today's fragrance is none other than Victoria's Secret Pure Daydream.

Fragrance Review: Victoria's Secret Pure Daydream

So first up let me say that what I love about the Victoria's Secret fragrances (the ones that I have tried) is that both the fragrance and the packaging are relatively uncomplicated. Why do I love this? Because honestly some days I just want a barely there fragrance and no fuss ... so these are just perfect!

The packaging is a fun, flirty and pink with a touch of gold and turquoise. At first glance, it's plain, simple and with no fancy "bits". The bottle itself is again a simple and straight up bottle with a gold spritz applicator and lid. The fragrance name is printed on the bottle along with a cute little bow (not unlike those found on your favourite VS knickers) and that is it ... no really!
The fragrance itself is pink in colour, while the composition lacks conformity and is once again rather unique. How so? It does not adhere to the traditional top, middle and base note but rather simply has two elements to it.

FRAGRANCE NOTES: Pearl Orchid & Pink Currant
Retails: R149.00

The fragrance is said to be ...
"Seductive and alluring, the perfect finishing touch"

Personally, I find the fragrance initially to be quite fruity on my skin, it later softens to a soft feminine and slightly sweet aroma. The fragrance is not long lasting and definitely, requires a touch up at least every 3-4 hours. But, I do love it and this is about my third bottle of Victoria Secret Pure Daydream ... so that says something I'm sure.

You can find this loveliness on both Zando.com and TakeAlot.com and they have the body spritz and cream to go with it if you like layering.

So a girl can dream, right? Well, never-ending shopping would be awesome! ... exhausting but awesome! Okay enough daydreaming, but here are a few goodies I would lurve lurve lurve for my wee little house!

The room I really want to focus on is the hearth of the home, it's where I spend most of my time, and I absolutely love having a welcoming home. I am a bit of a vintage gypsy, so I don't tend to do too much "matchy-matchy", and also I love an eclectic (some may even say eccentric) look and it works for me.

In fact, a recent visitor asked if I have an interior decorator do my lounge (sniggers and snorts ... yeah with what budget right?). Anyhoo I'll take the compliment as it was meant in a kind and meaningful way. Somehow people often think this of my house, it must be the flair I inherited from my mumsy.

Imaginary Decor Make Over

So if I had my way and the budget - these would be on my "immediate" shopping list. You know ... just to spice up my existing interior and give it the splash of newness it needs.

So let's set the tone...
My home is small with loads of light in summer and little light in winter. This means I keep the walls light and fresh ... but not white. It is painted a stone colour with white ceilings and dark floorboards.

The furnishings are all tones of neutrals think grey, stone, and creams, all except for my trunks in the middle of the lounge, my curtains and my throw pillows these are all duck egg blue. I have also added a splash of mustard yellow to bring the room together. My accessories are all antique gold and other metallic decor pieces. It really is soft and beautiful, but the carpets are worn and show sooooo much cat hair (white long hair cats shed like a bugger). Also, I would love some bold statement chairs to give the room a lift and a little cheeky character like me.

So enough explaining here are my home update choices ...

Home furniture and decor selection from Mr P Home

Personally, I am not shopping snob. I prefer buying from a store where I know I can afford to shop, and where the quality is great. A place that I can of course trust ... Mr Price Home has long been my go-to in this regard.

First of all a new rug, light in colour (for that cat hair) but durable and of course pretty ...
Approx R1400.00
Next up those magical splashes of colour I am looking for and nothing beats these cute chairs (I would love two of these) ...
Approx R1400 each
Now for a little unity with mirrors, I already have three on my livingroom wall and a new addition would bring it all together ...
Approx R1300. 00
Am I already giving you ideas? Well, I'm not done yet!

Next up are the finishing touches and remember these are accompanying my grey couch and duck egg blue soft furnishings and accessories ...

These are approx R199.00 each
Approx R499.00

No home is ever complete without a little green, and this Fiddlewood Fig has been on my wishlist long before they became a trend. In fact, I even tried to grow one from seed about 5 years ago ... no luck!

This past weekend, however, I spotted a few at a local nursery, and come payday that tree is mine dammit!
Approx R220.00

So now my home would be looking zhoosh for lack of a better word! We have a splash of green but what about how it smells? Yep, you know me I'm all about the sensory experience!

I was super excited to see that Diptyque has finally landed on SA shores, so I could not resist but add a favourite, this is one of their newest candles by John Galliano (who was designer for Givenchy twenty odd years ago when I worked on counter ... a little nostalgia maybe?) to my list of #LustHaves.
Another favourite brand is Jo Malone, but since buying my house the budget to indulge just isn't available ... but don't let that stop you.

Here is their home fragrance diffuser, they have a variety and I am dying to try their Lime Basil & Mandarin
So there you have it my birthday #Wishlist that dreams are made of.

I will hopefully be getting the Fiddlewood Fig tree and rug for myself ... but as for the rest ... just window shopping for now!

Big cozy hugs and happy homemaking !
